People with DisAbilities
Admission Criteria
Gateway Employment Resources currently bases admission decisions on the following criteria:
- Disability
- Barrier to Employment
- Appropriate Programming Available
- Transportation Availability
- Funding Availability
- Demonstrated Interest
- Age of Individuals Supported
Gateway Employment Resources serves individuals with a wide range of disabilities including, but not limited to, mental retardation, mental health disabilities, autism, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities.
Individuals applying for services from Gateway Employment Resources must demonstrate a need for the service. Their disability must present a substantial barrier to employment in one of two ways: job search activities or learning work skills.
Gateway's program structure is based on a short term job coaching phase. Following the intake and assessment phase, Gateway staff must determine whether an individual can reasonably be expected to succeed on a job with short term job coaching or whether there are other services available through Gateway that would meet the individual's employment needs.
Gateway Employment Resources does not provide transportation to participants after job placement, therefore, participants must demonstrate at least the potential for transportation to and from a work site. Gateway does provide training on the use of public transportation. Also, Gateway's staff can aid the participant and family in finding other methods of transportation such as cab, car pools, paid drivers, paratransit, etc.
Gateway Resources receives funding from a variety of public and private sources, each of which has its own admission criteria to be met. If an individual does not qualify for any funding currently available, he or she may be put on a waiting list until funding becomes available.
Individuals applying for services from Gateway Employment Resources must demonstrate an interest in participating in the program, and in the ultimate goal of employment, by attending initial meetings set up for the intake process and providing necessary paperwork and documentation when required by funding sources.
Gateway Employment Resources recognizes the value of employment for individuals of all ages. We have developed relationships with several area high schools allowing for Gateway's services to be included into the ISPs of transitioning students. We also support many senior citizens in both seeking and maintaining employment.
